Bell 407 Jet Ranger Cold and Dark Start Checklist

Note: This guide and all other checklists on this site ARE NOT full on guides, they are simply here to provide more immersion to our much loved sim. Using these guides, you can start your flight from the stand of your favorite airport, pushback and taxi to the runway as in real life. Enjoy!

CONTROLS ADVICE: BEFORE YOU START Make sure you configure your throttle controls to work with the helicopter. The aircraft utilises an IDLE ring and collective control that must be controlled independantly

Cold and Dark Start List

  1. Load X-plane 11
  2. Select the Bell 407 Jetranger and click Customize
  3. Remove the tick from Start with Engines Running
  4. Click Apply Changes
  5. The helicopter will now load with all cockpit systems and engine OFF
  6. PRE-POWERUP CHECKLIST
  7. Go to an external view and click on RED covers on the ends of the rotorblades to release the securing cables


    Your Bell 407 should now look like this:


  8. On the rear of the helicopter, click on the red exhaust cover to remove it



  9. The exhaust should now look like this



  10. Click on the red air cover intake to remove it



  11. The air intake cover should now look lke this



  12. Hover over the fuel tank cap and click on it. A circle will appear. Click on a portion of the circle to the required fuel



  13. On the front of the helicopter, click on the lid to open the battery compartment and click on the battery lead to connect the battery. If already connected you don't need to bother



  14. Inside the helicopter, hover on the top right of the instrument panel - the cursor changes to a hand - click the area



  15. Click Customize
  16. Click GPU - the GPU will now connect and you will have power




  17. Inside the cockpit:
  18. Click on the TOP of the headphones to remove them from view
  19. Confirm the CLIMB arm is FULLY down



  20. Confirm all overhead panel switches are OFF



  21. OVERHEAD PANEL
  22. ANTI-COLLISION AND POSITION LIGHTS: ON



  23. BATTERY: ON



  24. AVIONICS MASTER: ON



  25. BOOST/XFR LEFT and RIGHT: ON



  26. INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL VALVE: Flip red cover and flip switch: ON



  27. OVERHEAD AIR CON PANEL: FWD AFT: LOW



  28. OVERHEAD: FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS SWITCHES: All TO DG ATT TURN



  29. OVERHEAD AIR CON PANEL: PITOT HEATER SWITCH: ON



  30. MAIN PANEL: HORIZON DISPLAY: Click PULL to align



  31. GARMIN PANEL: Click C to switch ON



  32. FUEL VALVE: Confirm ON



  33. Confirm FADEC MODE: AUTO



  34. BEFORE ENGINE START - VISUAL PEREMETER CHECK: COMPLETE


  35. Turn throttle ring to IDLE


  36. THROTTLE ARM: flick switch to START



  37. Monitor the flight instruments as the power rises
  38. On the OVERHEAD Panel, click the GEN switch DOWN



  39. Turn the throttle RING to IDLE
  40. Click the switch BACK to Disengage on the START/DISENGAGE switch
  41. Confirm the GEN FAIL light has gone out on the warnings panel
  42. Allow rotors to reach IDLE speed
  43. Bring GPU menu back up and click on GPU to remove
  44. Check the BATT RLY light has gone out on the warnings panel
  45. Gradually turn IDLE ring to FULL and monitor instruments
  46. Slowly pull the lever up to lift off the ground
  47. The helicopter will turn to the right - correct this by applying left rudder
  48. Start climbing and off you go!
