Boeing 737-800 Cold and Dark Start Checklist

  1. Parking Brake ON
  2. Confirm Landing Gear: DOWN
  3. Confirm AUTOTHROTTLE: OFF
  4. Confirm BOTH powerplants: OFF
  5. Confirm BOTH IGNITION dials: OFF
  6. Confirm FUEL cutoff CLOSED
  7. Confirm FLAPS: CLOSED
  8. Confirm SPEEDBRAKE CLOSED
  9. Switch POSITION lights: STEADY
  10. Confirm No Smoking signs are ON
  11. Confirm Seat Belt Signs are ON
  12. Flip the BAT lever to ON
  13. Switch STANDBY POWER to AUTO
  14. Hydrolic ENG ELEC panel - all ON
  15. Fuel Pumps panel - all ON
  16. Yaw Damper: ON
  17. APU Panel - select ON then select START
  18. Wait for APU to reach 90%
  19. All APU GEN switches ON
  20. Air COND and Windscreen heating panel or Saitek Avionics panel - all switches on
  21. Set Landing altitude to that of destination airfield
  22. Set FLT ALT to the desired cruise altitude
  23. Enter all data into autopilot controls or saitek panel
  24. Activate Flight Director
  25. Switch all 3 APU bleeds to ON
  26. Follow ATC instructions up to Request Taxi
  27. Switch ON anti-collision beacon
  28. If dark switch on the logo light
  29. Release Parking Brake
  30. Activate CABIN CREW plugin
  31. Call for pushback:

    Click RIGHT = Nose LEFT tail RIGHT


    Click LEFT = Nose RIGHT tail LEFT
  32. After push, apply parking brake
  33. Left FUEL cutoff lever to IDLE
  34. Switch LEFT ignition dial to GND
  35. Monitor LEFT engine start
  36. On Air Cond Panel set dial to APU BLEED
  37. Right FUEL cutoff lever to IDLE
  38. Switch RIGHT ignition dial to GND
  39. Monitor RIGHT engine start
  40. Roll the trim wheel until the needle is set to the correct trim setting
  41. Set appropriate takeoff flap
  42. Activate TAXI and STROBE lights
  43. Complete EXTERNAL control checks
  44. Request TAXI and follow instructions
  45. After takeoff - confirm positive climb - gear up

  46. Set AUTOTHROTTLE on SAITEK PANEL
  47. At 3000ft engage autopilot
  48. Retract flaps
  49. Navigate using the VORS above
  50. Start of Descent Formula: current altitude x 3 example 4,500 ft x 3 = start of descent 13.5 miles from destination
  51. Reduce speed
  52. Contact ATC for instructions

  53. Listen to ATIS
  54. Review airport maps
  55. Final approach checklist......
  56. Flaps SET
  57. Approach speed SET
  58. Gear DOWN
  59. Speedbrake ARMED
  60. Flight controls CHECKED
  61. All instruments CHECKED
  62. Parking and flightdeck Shutdown.....
  63. Parking brake SET
  64. Fuel cutoff - OFF
  65. APU OFF
  66. BATT OFF
